Something's Fishy Here
A group of British researchers sent a warning letter that was published in the
journal Emerging Infectious Diseases - a publication of the US
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - claiming that "fish pedicures" popular in a number of health spas can expose recipients to a host of
bacteria and infections. Exposing your feet to live
freshwater fish that eat away dead or damaged skin for mainly cosmetic
reasons can be a significant problem, as these fish may carry a wide array
of organisms and disease. These diseases can include a number of invasive soft-tissue
infections, some of which are resistant to antibiotics.
